ComponentArt Releases the New Web.UI 3.0

ComponentArt is very pleased to announce that Web.UI version 3.0 for ASP.NET is now available for download and purchase. Web.UI 3.0 includes three brand new components: a truly next-generation Data Grid, a Calendar / DatePicker component, and CallBack - the industry's first universal AJAX wrapper for any ASP.NET control.

ComponentArt Grid for ASP.NET combines our patent-pending rendering technology with the power of AJAX - introducing the ability to operate in client, server, and callback running modes. Grid's multi-mode operation, support for HTTP callbacks, and its client side template feature provides the richest, highest-performing user experience delivered to date by an ASP.NET Grid control. Other features include: paging, sorting, grouping, filtering, searching, column resizing and reordering, hierarchical display of multiple tables, client-side templates, server-side templates, selection of multiple records, record editing, conditional formatting, context menus, and keyboard control.

ComponentArt Calendar for ASP.NET is an integrated Calendar and Date Picker Control. Also built to take advantage of ComponentArt's client-side rendering technology, Calendar for ASP.NET does not require postbacks for month paging or date selections. Features include: easy implementation of stand-alone calendars, date pickers, pop-up calendars and date range pickers, as well as multi-month display, multi-date selection, custom days collection, keyboard control and more.

ComponentArt CallBack for ASP.NET not only adds cutting-edge AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) functionality to the other components in the Web.UI suite - but also "AJAX-enables" virtually any ASP.NET control! CallBack delivers the capability to render any ASP.NET control through an AJAX-style callback request, eliminating the need for page reloads. Clean and elegant - CallBack lets developers render complex content exhibiting "live update" behaviours in only a few lines of code.

Like all ComponentArt controls, Grid, Calendar and CallBack offer up-level cross browser support for IE, FireFox, Mozilla, Netscape and Opera.

Today ComponentArt is excited to announce a strategic partnership with Telligent Systems Inc., creators of the very popular Community Server product. A managed platform offering moderated discussion forums, blogging capabilities, photo galleries and more - Community Server is the engine that powers some of the advanced collaborative aspects of such websites as Microsoft's www.asp.net and blogs.msdn.com, and domain registrar GoDaddy.com.

Beginning with the upcoming version 2.0, key aspects of the Community Server user interface will be powered by ComponentArt's Web.UI suite of controls for ASP.NET.

"Our companies have been working closely for some time to deliver a rich set of features for the new version of Community Server in the areas of U.I. and system management", says Rob Howard of Telligent. "We're very excited about the integration of ComponentArt's U.I. elements; they provide some amazing new capabilities for our customers, and I expect that our use of the Web.UI controls will be even more widespread in upcoming releases".

ComponentArt is pleased to have the opportunity to showcase the power of the Web.UI user interface controls to the large Community Server customer base - and the company's customers have also realized direct benefits from the relationship:

"It's a privilege to be working closely with some of the brightest minds in the industry" says Miljan Braticevic, ComponentArt President. "Several key features of our new Web.UI version 3.0 came about as a direct result of the feedback provided by the Telligent team. Our customers are already enjoying the rewards of this partnership".

The integration of the Web.UI components into the Community Server product will not affect its existing licensing structure in any way, and additional licensing for Web.UI is not required. Telligent is expected to release the new version 2.0 of Community Server in December 2005.

ComponentArt is excited to announce the immediate availability of Web.UI 2006.1 SP2, which includes full interoperability with Microsoft's emerging AJAX development framework currently code named "Atlas". To begin using Web.UI together with "Atlas", download the latest Web.UI for ASP.NET 2.0 build.

"Atlas" is Microsoft's framework for building a new generation of richer, more interactive, and highly personalized, standards-based Web applications. This new Web development technology integrates client script libraries with the ASP.NET 2.0 server-based development framework. "Atlas" makes it possible to easily take advantage of AJAX techniques on the Web and enables you to create ASP.NET pages with a rich, responsive UI and server communication.

ComponentArt is pleased to be among the very first component vendors to extend and add value to "Atlas". We would, however, like to stress to our customers that "Atlas" is currently in a pre-release stage and is being beta tested by Microsoft, and the "Atlas" public APIs are still subject to change. As such, please use Web.UI with "Atlas" at your on risk and discretion.

For more information about "Atlas", visit the official "Atlas" website.

Microsoft and ComponentArt Bring the Next Generation of Web Development

Today Microsoft Corporation released their much-anticipated new ASP.NET AJAX framework, and ComponentArt is proud to simultaneously announce the immediate availability of Web.UI for ASP.NET AJAX - the first suite of controls designed specifically for the platform.

ASP.NET AJAX is a free framework made available by Microsoft for quickly creating a whole new generation of more efficient, more interactive and highly-personalized Web experiences that work across all popular browsers. Bringing the best of AJAX together with the advanced features of ASP.NET 2.0, Microsoft ASP.NET AJAX lets developers create websites and web applications with a richer, more responsive user interface.

Part of ComponentArt's Web.UI 2006.2 release, Web.UI for ASP.NET AJAX augments Microsoft's foundation with a set of 13 advanced user interface controls designed specifically for the new framework. Going far beyond basic compatibility or interoperability, Web.UI for ASP.NET AJAX offers true integration with ASP.NET AJAX in several key areas: All controls inherit from the Sys.UI.Control client-side base class, expose extensive client-side object models built for the AJAX Library type system, and feature the unique ability to be programmatically modified on the client - with immediate refresh of the corresponding screen area.

"ComponentArt is very excited about our unique positioning in the ASP.NET AJAX space" says Miljan Braticevic, President of ComponentArt. "Rather than create a proprietary AJAX framework of our own, we have embraced Microsoft's new state-of-the-art component model, and delivered the industry's first suite of true ASP.NET AJAX controls. Beginning today, our customers can utilize the best-of-breed AJAX development framework with Microsoft ASP.NET AJAX, and best-of-breed UI controls with ComponentArt Web.UI for ASP.NET AJAX".

Keith Smith, Group Product Manager at Microsoft agrees: "ComponentArt has been a great partner for ASP.NET since the beginning and Web.UI for ASP.NET AJAX continues that tradition. ComponentArt took advantage of the frequent public preview releases of ASP.NET AJAX to ensure their control suite not only works well with ASP.NET AJAX 1.0 but also fully integrates with the framework on both the client and server. Web.UI is a powerful suite of controls that will take any site enhanced with ASP.NET AJAX to the next level."

For additional information on ComponentArt's strategy surrounding ASP.NET AJAX and Web.UI's deep integration with the framework, please refer to the posting "Interoperability" vs. "True ASP.NET AJAX Controls", and view the Web.UI for ASP.NET AJAX Video.

ComponentArt Releases Web.UI 2007.1 for ASP.NET

ComponentArt has released version 2007.1 of Web.UI for ASP.NET - adding brand new ComboBox, ToolBar and Dialog controls to the suite - and further expanding the first true set of controls for Microsoft's advanced new ASP.NET AJAX framework.

Web.UI 2007.1 is available for immediate download at: www.componentart.com/webui

Now featuring a total of 16 premium user interface controls for use in ASP.NET, ASP.NET 2.0 and ASP.NET AJAX - Web.UI offers a comprehensive set of components with the highest level of client-side programmatic control in the industry.

Web.UI for ASP.NET AJAX is also the first component suite to offer true integration with ASP.NET AJAX. Going far beyond basic compatibility or interoperability, Web.UI brings the advantages of this next-generation web framework to developers today: All controls inherit from the Sys.UI.Control client-side base class, expose extensive client-side object models built for the AJAX Library type system, and feature the unique ability to be programmatically modified on the client - with immediate refresh of the corresponding screen area.

"Version 2007.1 marks a significant milestone in our product's development." says Miljan Braticevic, President of ComponentArt. "We have built our Web.UI suite to include 16 premium UI controls, and we are offering the first component suite with full Microsoft ASP.NET AJAX integration. We feel that our strategy and direction to date around AJAX has been sound, and we are glad to be bringing the first full ASP.NET AJAX component suite to market at a time when people are beginning to realize its true value."

With the version 2007.1 release of Web.UI, ComponentArt has also introduced new and expanded Enterprise Services to address the needs of organizations with larger development teams. These services include dedicated Training sessions for teams of developers - covering topics such as core features and advanced applications of the Web.UI component suite - and partnered .NET consulting services to assist customers with larger projects that utilize ComponentArt products. New support options are also available, including Enterprise Support Contracts that provide direct links to our senior product architects and the highest level of priority for customer support requests.

ComponentArt Releases Web.UI for ASP.NET Version 2007.2 - New Version Adds Groundbreaking Editor and SpellCheck Controls, plus Direct Binding to Web Services

November 15, 2007 - ComponentArt is pleased to announce the full release of version 2007.2 of Web.UI for ASP.NET, the premium suite of user interface controls for web development in .NET. Available for immediate purchase or free trial download, version 2007.2 of Web.UI adds two highly-anticipated controls - Editor and SpellCheck - as well as the ability for controls to bind directly to Web Services.

The new release of Web.UI can be downloaded today from ComponentArt's website at http://www.componentart.com.

ComponentArt Editor for ASP.NET is one of the most significant and powerful controls to be added to Web.UI to date, and greatly enhances the overall value of the suite. Completely customizable in its look and functionality, the Editor can be easily configured to deliver a plethora of features and options to the end user, or to be as fast and light as desired. Most important of all, the new Editor control overcomes the inconsistencies found among different browsers, delivering uniform behaviour and consistent XHTML output across all modern browsers.

"An Editor control is something our end users have been demanding from us for some time" says Steve Rolufs, C.E.O. of ComponentArt. "We're pleased to have taken the time to get it right, and deliver an Editor with truly breakthrough features and capabilities". Rolufs adds "Our users are excited to add this powerful tool to their arsenal, while being freed from the headache of accommodating the numerous browser-specific anomalies that plague other editor controls".

Joining Editor in this release is an advanced, AJAX-enabled spell checking control: ComponentArt SpellCheck for ASP.NET. Working in concert with the new Editor control or independently, SpellCheck features support for custom dictionaries and multiple languages.

Another significant leap forward for the Web.UI suite is the new ability for controls to bind directly to web services and JSON collections. Taking AJAX applications to the next level, this capability will allow developers to create even richer, more immediate web experiences.

"The ability for our most powerful controls to bind directly to a web service from the client opens a whole new door for developers" says Miljan Braticevic, President of ComponentArt. "This new feature eliminates the overhead of sending requests to the web form containing the server control, and provides a super-efficient pipeline directly from a client to a web service or JSON collection. The immediacy and the clean separation of tiers enable an elegant and high-performance alternative to the currently common AJAX techniques."

Available in progressively more powerful builds for ASP.NET, ASP.NET 2.0 and ASP.NET AJAX - Web.UI version 2007.2 is priced at $799 for an individual Developer License, and $999 for a Subscription License. Bulk-discounted Enterprise licenses are also available for teams of 3 or more developers. Customers with active Subscription and Enterprise licenses will receive Web.UI 2007.2 at no additional charge, and have already been issued license keys through their user account on www.componentart.com.

ComponentArt Web.UI 2008.1 Is Here - Featuring the New Hyper-responsive AJAX UI

March 27, 2008 ComponentArt is pleased to announce the immediate availability of Web.UI 2008.1, the premium suite of user interface controls for ASP.NET. The first major Web.UI release in 2008 expands the suite yet again by introducing a highly-demanded file upload control, while further extending the company's lead in the AJAX arena.

ComponentArt Web.UI for ASP.NET now features the widest range of AJAX capabilities in the industry, including the new hyper-responsive client-side binding with ASP.NET 3.5 web services. This innovative technique employs ComponentArt's rich client-side controls invoking web services directly, receiving JSON data and automatically updating all UI elements on the client. Live demos of each AJAX technique and the corresponding source code are included in the Web.UI 2008.1 download package.

The latest addition to the Web.UI suite – ComponentArt Upload for ASP.NET – features sophisticated file uploading capabilities including multiple file upload, AJAX progress indicators, comprehensive client-side API and full control over the upload file & folder details. Upload extends the capabilities of Editor's new Image Manager dialog, while serving as a powerful standalone tool.

"With over one-and-a-half years of production usage, ComponentArt Web.UI is the industry's most mature suite of controls built on the ASP.NET AJAX client-side component model", says Miljan Braticevic, the company's president. "Another unique aspect of our product is the ability to target four different versions of ASP.NET with a single code base – progressively expanding the feature set for each new platform build, while the keeping the common features and the API identical among all frameworks. This clear upgrade path is highly appreciated by our customers."

ComponentArt Web.UI 2008.1 can be downloaded today at ComponentArt.com.

Web.UI version 2008.1 is priced at $799 for an individual Developer License, and $999 for a Subscription License. Bulk-discounted Enterprise licenses are also available for teams of 3 or more developers.
It gives us great pleasure to announce the launch of ComponentArt Community 2.0 – a complete redesign and re-implementation of our membership, forums and blogs. Our team put a lot of effort into bringing various community technologies together in a way that we feel will benefit our customers the most.

The highlights of the new features are:

Question & Answer Forum Threads – Any new thread marked as a question can now have posts marked as "suggested answer" or "verified answer". Question status icons in the thread list make it very easy for our support staff to review the list of unanswered threads and provide timely feedback.

Vastly Improved Search – The new search indexing and UI offer significant improvements over our previous implementation.

RSS Feeds – RSS feeds are now available for just about any content element: forums threads, thread posts, blogs, blog comments, tags, or search results. Those who still prefer to receive email notifications will be able to continue to use that medium as well.

Tags – Forum and blog posts can now be tagged. Users can edit the list of tags for their existing posts at any time.

Ratings – Forum threads can now be rated.

Quick Access – The Forum Highlights widget on the main forums page allows users to immediately access: Featured Threads, My Threads, Unread, Unanswered or Most Recent threads.

User Avatars – Any member of our community can now upload their avatar image. We hope that this feature will bring a more personal feel to our community.
