Running Visual Studio 2008, Windows 7 64 bit, with the Web.UI 2009.3, running a project in debug mode controls will not work. Running the project via IIS the controls seem ok. I have seen another post about 64 bit but cant make head not tail of the instructions to fix it.

This is becoming really annoying as its costing me time and money and both are in short supply, almost onto the point of demanding a refund, completely dodgy product.

We've updated the License Manager.  Info available here.

I have not been able to reproduce this with the following configuration:

  • Windows 7 Professional x64
  • Visual Studio 2008 SP1
  • Web.UI 2009.3 SP1

I have added several AJAX controls to the web form.  They are licensed correctly in debug mode.

To pursue this matter, I suggest you open a support request. Our Support Team can look into things in more depth with regards to your specific scenario.

If I select "Use Visual Studio Development Server" everything seems to work fine. When I switch to "Use Local IIS Web server" then I get the same issue as the origianl message.

Yes this does work, I guess I can live with it, wasted a lot of time trying to get it working.

If the work around works for you, that is great!

I was really just trying to give the staff the extra bit of info to reproduce and fix the issue. I'd like a solution to your original problem.

I've looked further into the issue.  It seems that things have changed in Windows 7 x64 with regards to registry reflection.  This will affect licensing on Windows 7 x64 systems where the application is not using a .lic file in the bin folder.  So, until the License Manager is fixed, you have these options:

  • deploy a .lic file in the bin folder of your application
  • set Enable 32-Bit application = true for the IIS7 application pool under which your app is running
  • export the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ComponentArt and import it to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComponentArt

Hope one of these work for you.  We'll definitely be fixing the LMA for the next release.
