I work for ComponentArt as a senior developer on Web.UI product line.
My first computer program was written some time in mid 1980's and was drawing Olympic circles on a Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48k. So that's about how old I am. It's about 30 in about 2007.
I wrote all sorts of various software since then, got a Computer Science / Math degree from University of Waterloo, and got into web server control programming in about year 2000, which is pretty early on so I like to mention it.
In personal life, I am not very much into technology at all. It seems like I am always last to buy a new gadget. I read BusinessWeek and Economist instead of --- whatever it is techies read.
The most prevalent pattern in my life is that my interests and habits change often. However, here are some of the more interesting habits that have been constant in my life for at least a year:
- Rarely watching movies. Among the most prominent movies that I have never seen are all Star Wars movies, all Lord of the Rings movies, both Shreks, etc.
- Rarely reading books. The last I read was terrific: [Shake Hands with the Devil], but it took me over a year to read. That's why I mentioned that I am subscribed to sophisticated magazines, so I don't look like a total ignoramus.
- Browsing with Opera. I love that browser! It's been awesome for years, and I think it's still the best. [opera.com]
- Playing Minesweeper. Yes, the dumb Windows game. I only play Expert level and my best time is a sick 58 seconds.
- Playing poker. I actually made some money on my first trip to Vegas (for ASP.NET Connections show in November 2006), but I am no [Steve Marx]. Yet?
- Listening to The Tom Leykis Show. [BlowMeUpTom.com]
- Feuding with taxi drivers.
- Working at a very meticulous pace - in other words: too slowly. Which makes me the antithesis of a good blogger.
